Ben with Marchant de Villiers (middle) and Kobus Eksteen (right)
On Friday 19/12 I had the great pleasure and privilege to meet up with two of my old students again and play a round of golf with them. We were also fortunate to be playing with current student, Boschenmeer resident and junior member Daniel Cronje.
Both Marchant and Kobus played junior provincial golf for Boland. Marchant attended school at Gimnasium and Kobus was at Paarl Boys. Both went overseas on golf scholarships after matric. They finished their studies in the USA where Kobus went to Lee University in Cleveland, TN and Marchant studied at Post University in Waterbury in the state of Connecticut. Kobus is back in South Africa where he is working as a Strategy Economist in Cape Town. His parents are still living here at Boschenmeer. Marchant came on a yearly visit to his parents where he is working in America and is a Senior Auditor at Deloitte in Stamford just outside New York.
Golf is not their first priority anymore, but both of them still play a very nice game. They are perfect examples of how the game of golf will teach you certain values in life that will help you to become successful in whatever you do. Well done to both of them – I am very proud.
